Our Baselworld 2013 collections show Mikimoto’s expertise in designing and creating magnificent cultured pearl jewellery. Skilled designers and artisans worked for over a year to meticulously design, hand-craft and produce the collection.

MILKY WAY

A romantic motif of elongated stars decorated with diamonds and strands of lustrous pearls imitate the Milky Way. This stunning piece, a band of pearl light made up from vast numbers of graduated South Sea and Akoya cultured pearls and diamond stars, is a dynamic design with a combination of 2 and 3 dimensional elements.

Accented to the side is a large South Sea pearl framed by a diamond star surrounded by smaller stars falling away. This luxuriously long 7 strand necklace has complementary drop earrings each unique in design. One has a bright star encircling the South Sea pearl and the other focuses on the South Sea pearl, both with numerous diamond stars falling below.

PEARL STREAMS

An evolution of jewellery, to be worn around the body. Pearl Streams is a stunning piece of jewellery that highlights and adorns all female curves. Classic in design the diamonds add to the beautiful lustre of the numerous Akoya pearls which are carefully graduated to caress the female form.

The meeting point of this design is accented with a stunning Diamond clasp featuring a single South Sea pearl drop. This piece can also be used as a separate elegant diamond brooch. Asymmetric earrings of South Sea pearls; one a cascade drop of diamonds the other a short drop perfectly match this graceful stream of pearls.

MOBIUS

Unlike a standard necklace this piece is designed like a Mobius Strip, a surface with one continuous side formed by joining the ends of a rectangle after twisting one end through 180°. By designing a necklace to be twisted a new 3 dimensional style is created. Like the collar of a traditional Japanese Kimono with a beautiful Sakura (Japanese Cherry Blossom) diamond motif, this 8 row Akoya pearl necklace translates classical jewellery into a modern statement piece.

SPIRAL

The flowing Spiral shapes of this ‘one of a kind’ necklace symbolizes the great vitality of life. Decorated with energetic Spirals and bubbles of diamonds, this glittering 3-dimensional design surges around stunning white South Sea Baroque pearls.

This vibrant necklace has a centre piece of 3 tiers of falling pearls and diamonds and is surrounded by a serene longer strand of matching Baroque pearls. Also versatile this unique necklace can be worn separately or together. With the theme of water movement, skilled designers and craftsmen in Japan have created a delicate two piece collection, a waterfall of Diamonds and White South Sea Pearls.

Droplets of Diamonds cascade down an 18k white gold chain to form larger droplets that clutch a spherical White South Sea Pearl (13-14mm) of such high lustre that the light will play and dance in the diamond droplets as the waterfall of white gold chains sway with movement.

Chinese New Year is one of the most important and traditional festivals in China.

This year is the Year of the Snake, which is sixth in the cycle of twelve animals in the circular Chinese Horoscope following Year of the Dragon in 2012.

The Snake occurs every twelfth year and ancient Chinese wisdom says a Snake in the house is a good omen as it means your family will not starve. The Snake is keen, cunning, quiet, intelligent and wise.

The Chinese New Year does not fall on a specific date, so it is essential to check the calendar to find the exact date on each Chinese New Year. In 2013, Chinese New Year’s Eve is celebrated on 9th February, and Chinese New Year officially starts on 10th. Chinese New Year represents the end of the Winter season and celebrates the arrival of Spring and all that is new in the coming year.

Families celebrate the Chinese New Year for reunion dinners which is the biggest feast of the year. On Chinese New Year’s Eve there are massive firework displays for entertainment however traditionally fireworks were used to frighten away the evil spirits.

Red is the colour that can scare away evil spirits, Chinese will dress from head to toe in new red clothing maintaining China’s old traditions and myths that wearing red is a lucky colour.

During this festive period younger generations receive a red pocket containing money from the older generations of the family. This symbolises a popular family tradition bestowing best wishes and luck to all children.
