A Poem and Gift for Valentine’s Day – Heinrich Heine

The Sea Hath Its Pearls

The sea hath its pearls,
The heaven hath its stars;
But my heart, my heart,
My heart hath its love.

Great are the sea, and the heaven;
Yet greater is my heart,
And fairer than pearls or stars
Flashes and beams my love.

Thou little, youthful maiden,
Come unto my great heart;
My heart, and the sea and the heaven
Are melting away with love!

By Heinrich Heine (1799-1856)
Translated by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807-1882)

As Valentine’s Day nears, there really couldn’t be a more fittingly romantic poem to describe Mikimoto’s Infinity Heart Strand Necklace. Heinrich Heine, one of the foremost German poets of the 19th century, uses contrasting themes of love and pearls throughout The Sea Hath Its Pearls, repeating references to the heart in all three stanzas.

The Infinity Heart Strand Necklace is the perfect way to give both your heart and pearls to someone this Valetine’s Day. And why not use Heine’s poem with your gift?
