In 1893, Kokichi Mikimoto became the first person in the world to successfully create Akoya pearls. This astounding achievement was followed by another - the creation of Black pearls. The Black pearl is extremely rare, and in 1914, Mikimoto embarked on creating cultured Black pearls in Ishigaki Island, Okinawa. This magnificent brooch is a superb piece which represents the evolution of MIKIMOTO cultured pearls. The mystical glow and deep coloration of Black pearls are further enhanced by the intricate craftsmanship and elegant gemstones that are combined to create this stunning piece. Kokichi Mikimoto was known throughout the world as the Pearl King, and his neverending passion for pearls is evident in this luxurious piece.
